Veterinary Careers in Oakland, CA

Thornhill Pet hospital is seeking a veterinary assistant to join our team. We are looking for a team player with a minimum of 2 years experience in the veterinary field.

Job Duties include but are not limited to:

• Holding and restraining dogs and cats during veterinary procedures.
• Cleaning and maintaining runs, cages, examination or operating rooms, and client areas. Including sweeping, vacuuming and mopping.
• Sanitizing the isolation room to control the spread of disease.
• Monitoring patients during surgery under inhalant anesthesia (Isoflurane).
• Assisting with radiography.
• Monitoring patients recovering from surgery and notifying veterinarians of any unusual changes or symptoms.
• Cleaning, maintaining and sterilizing instruments or equipment.
• Administering medication, and immunizations, to animals as prescribed and directed by veterinarians.
• Venipuncture
• Placing IV catheters.
• Reading fecal parasite tests.
• Walking patients.
• Nail clipping.
• Frequent lifting and carrying of animals (with assistance)
• Regular standing, bending, stooping, and crouching while working with patients.
• Regular sitting at computers and computers and other electronic equipment.
• Exposure to animal allergens and the potential for animal bites and scratches.
• Exposure to disinfecting solutions including chlorine bleach and activated hydrogen peroxide.

The position is full time Monday through Friday 8 am to 5:00 p.m.

Compensation is $19-$23/hour
